Dylan Magnin Carbonell was born on February 2, 1994, in Reston, Virginia, to Nelson and Michele Carbonell. He was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2. Dylan had difficulty communicating with other people in his early years. However, Dylan found out he could communicate through drawing and has been drawing ever since. He made comics at age six and a few stop-motion films by age 10. He was influenced by series like Looney Tunes, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Ed, Edd N’ Eddy.
After three years at Northern Virginia Community College, Dylan moved to LA in 2015 to attend Exceptional Minds. While there, he refined his animation and drawing skills by working on projects like The 2015 Momentous Insurance Holiday Card and The LA Zoo 50th Anniversary Card and exclusive school projects like Barbar’s Bargains and Morphing Time.
In the summer of 2017, Dylan worked as a production intern on the hit animated show The Loud House, where he set up spreadsheets and collected character and prop assets for the show’s third season. While there, Dylan participated in production meetings and storyboard pitches and made connections with the show’s crew. Dylan learned the ins and outs of animated TV production on The Loud House, and he remains in touch with many of his coworkers to this day.
After graduating from the Exceptional Minds school in 2018, Dylan worked on various freelance gigs for their animation studio. There he animated on the All Hands In infomercial for Special Olympics, The Cruel Shoes, an animated adaptation of the classic Steve Martin comedy skit, and the Sesame Street short, Backyard Camping, as well as doing boards, prop design, and FX design for Space Cadet, a commercial for ToonBoom Storyboard Pro. He also served as a lead storyboard artist, background designer, and animator for the Sesame Street short, Super Fluffster Animated, the animated story of the stuffed rabbit of Julia, Sesame Street’s autistic resident.
In 2019, Dylan spent six months working at Warner Bros. Animation, spending the first three months in the Archive department, scanning old storyboards for Animaniacs and Pinky and The Brain and DC Properties like Superman and Batman. Dylan spent the second three months doing design clean-up for the DTV Scooby-Doo film, The Sword and The Scoob, where he did clean-up work on props and backgrounds.
Dylan continues to do freelance work for Exceptional Minds and is currently working on his own projects, developing his own animated series, and writing pitches for the Cartoon Network shorts program. In addition, Dylan is now looking for an entry-level job as a storyboard artist, revisionist, or character designer.
